Apart from orang-utans
and rhinos, Borneo is home to other endangered species such as the
clouded leopard, the Borneo
elephant, proboscius
monkey, the sun bear and the gibbon. The Borneo rainforest is
endangered by deforestation.
Borneo rainforest and conservation projects
In 2006 Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia launched the
Heart of Borneo programme with a commitment to work together to
protect the rainforest in Borneo.
The Heart of Borneo project area comprises 220,000 km˛ of
protected nature areas and well-managed, productive rain forests. (Source:
