will be the most likely place to arrive in Sarawak. Most
headquarters of the major national parks are located in Kuching
and if you visit some of the national parks and you would like to
stay overnight you may have to show an overnight permit issued by
them.
Much of the information you may receive from the local tourist
office.
Most tour
operators also have their headquarters in Kuching and in order
to book a trip you will need to visit their head office.

Sunday market: free.
From Saturday afternoon till Sunday: very busy fruit and vegetable
market, where many local producers offer their tropical products
on sale.
Waterfront: interesting and picturesque architecture, shops where
you can buy the local craft and some very pleasant evening bars.
Astana: the Governor's residence, previously the residence of the
White Rajahs.

Sarawak Cultural Village - Living museum
Attractions: seven traditional houses within the village can be
visited. You will be greeted by a traditional welcome dance and a
brief introduction to the culture of each ethnic group. After
visiting the houses you will be invited to see a very well done
cultural show which is included in the entrance price.

Some hotels reduce
their official published rates by more than 50% during the off
season.
General: Business travelers qualify for corporate rates,
usually at least 20% cheaper than rates for non-business
travelers.
Sometimes there are special promotion offers available, but ask
before you book. Some hotels can be booked in combination with an
airline stopover program at very competitive rates.
Most hotels have conference facilities and meeting rooms. If
you book a room on an executive floor, you may even qualify for
free usage of small meeting rooms in addition to usage of the
floor lounge.

Near the Telan Usang Hotel, extremely popular with the Chinese
community, excellent fresh food, good atmosphere, mainly seafood,
no menu, but very good service and assistance from the owners.
Very famous for its sea food.
Top Spot Food Court:
This open air food court is also very famous for its large variety
and good seafood. It is located near the Hilton. It can be
extremely busy sometimes.
Pubs and Bars
Ground floor of Riverside Suite Building:
Several bars where you can sit outside overlooking the river,
happy hour from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Hangout for the local
expatriates and business people, very pleasant.
Behind Hilton and Top Spot Food Court: many up-market bars that
seem to be very popular.
